Giveaway winners + Drawing A Day #113: No strings

February 7th, 2011

Thanks to everyone who entered our calendar giveaway — and a big woohoo CONGRATS to our two winners: Tanya (aka High On Craft, one of our featured artists) and Geneviève (who’s been so encouraging throughout our project so far too)… we’ll be sending you your calendars out today!

***

Thanks also to Serena for taking over the reins while I went to Cuba and did a week-long impression of a beached whale. While I was down south, I was feeling very grateful to be able to break out of the usual day-to-day rigamarole and grind, and this image popped into my head — No strings:

(And please don’t think that I feel like a puppet in any way — it’s just a visual for some of the thoughts that were bumbling around my brain at the time :)

And more thanks for a couple of very kind shout-outs we got last Friday:

(1) The D.A.D. Project and I were featured, along with my dear friend and CBC host (and past D.A.D. donator) Amanda Putz, on our friend Amanda Sage (also a past D.A.D. donator)’s new site called “Kickass Canadians“.

Check out the site for inspiring and insightful interviews by the likes of sprinter Glbert Glenroy, producer/publisher Alex Janson, and others. Thanks for thinking we kick ass, Amanda S :)

(2) The D.A.D. Project got a thumbs-up on Local Tourist Ottawa, courtesy of Krista Leben (yet another past D.A.D. donator) who was being featured because of her Wed By Hand event, which took place yesterday.

Thanks so much for the kudos and encouragement… it’s incredibly appreciated and humbling.

Have a great week, everyone!

Feature Friday #23: Chandelier earrings by urbanitejewelry

December 17th, 2010
** Update: These awesome earrings have been purchased and are no longer available.
The buyer contacted us
directly, so the listing has been removed from our etsy shop.
To check out other fabulous works by urbanitejewelry, please visit her shop directly. THANKS! **

In January, I got a friendly email from a jewelry-maker named Krista who was new to Ottawa and looking for information about the local craft scene. Less than a year later, Krista has taken the city by storm — organizing her own crafty events, starting up a local etsy team, guest writing for blogs, and getting tons of media coverage. I have asked her a few times: “Do you sleep???”

Now add The D.A.D. Project donor to Krista’s list:

These darling chandelier earrings from urbanite jewelry are simply stunning. Striking matte black is set off by gorgeous red crystals, making these a perfect pair of holiday earrings! These earrings are available exclusively only at The D.A.D. Project!

Details:
• Total length: 2 inches (including ear wires)
• Colors: Matte black, ruby red
• Materials: Black plated silver (nickel free), crystal

Urbanite jewelry is your source for modern & handmade jewelry inspired by different cities of the world! Krista, the designer behind urbanite jewelry, is also director of The Craft Co-Op, Ottawa’s source for all things craft in the capital. She’s also the producer of several indie craft shows around the city including Wed By Hand, Ottawa’s alternative wedding show.

Thank you, Krista, for your support AND for kicking the local indie scene up a notch!

And a little more treasury love — thanks to henrystreet for featuring our Whiter shade of pale print in her “snow falling on cedars & cityscapes” collection:

This wraps up our 2010 listings, as we head into holiday season and take a break. Our shop will continue to be open, though there will be a period of time when we will not be around to send out any packages… we’ll update our shop announcement to clarify all the details.

We’ll be back in early January to pick things back up. Have a most wonderful holiday, everyone — keep warm, eat too much, hug your family, high-five your friends, revel in it all. Thanks again for all your help and encouragement so far. See you in 2011 :)
